Le couteau Mercator a été conçu pour la première fois en 1867 par Heinrich Kaufmann. Il tire son nom de la traduction latine de Kaufmann, signifiant commerçant, et en Amérique du Nord, il est souvent appelé "Black Cat Knife". Au fil du temps, il est devenu un nom familier en Allemagne et dans le monde entier. À propos d'Otter-Messer- Otter-Messer a été fondée dans une petite chaumière à Solingen, en Allemagne, en 1840. Ils ont commencé comme un atelier d'affûtage traditionnel alimenté par l'eau. Aujourd'hui, ils utilisent toujours des méthodes traditionnelles pour fabriquer leurs couteaux à la main, produisant des produits intemporels et de haute qualité.
